Generative AI and Sourcing

By Chris Hoyt (he/him) posted 03-28-2023 02:12 PM

Sourcers face many challenges in their roles, including the constant dilemma of balancing the quantity and quality of the candidates they present to hiring managers. Faced with competing deadlines, sourcers must work strategically and methodically to develop authentic relationships with candidates while meeting hiring goals. Add to that the need to stay on the pulse of sourcing strategies, the workload of sourcers is ever-growing. What if AI could automate some of this work to allow sourcing pros to excel at what AI can't accomplish? Generative AI might be a solution.

What is generative AI?

Generative AI is a type of AI system capable of generating text, images, or other data in response to user-generated prompts. While ChatGPT is creating the most buzz, several competitors are also worth checking out including Chatsonic and Jasper Chat.

How could generative AI be utilized in sourcing?

According to the recently released Future of Recruiting Report from LinkedIn, 74% of hiring pros hope that generative AI will automate repetitive tasks to allow them to prioritize strategic work. Generative AI could potentially automate several stages of the recruitment process, including screening resumes (particularly helpful in high-volume situations), drafting and automating correspondence, scheduling interviews, and even conducting initial interviews.

Curious about ChatGPT’s abilities, I recently asked it to draft an email to candidates who have dropped off in communication. Here’s how it looks:

Chris: Craft an email to candidates who have applied for a job at Abbvie but who have not responded to at least two of our attempts to follow up with them.

ChatGPT: Subject: Reminder - Your Job Application at AbbVie

Dear [Candidate's Name],

I hope this email finds you well. We recently received your application for [Job Position] at AbbVie, and we were impressed with your skills and qualifications.

However, we noticed that we haven't heard back from you since we sent our initial follow-up email. We understand that life can get busy, and we don't want to miss out on the opportunity to connect with you regarding the role you applied for.

At AbbVie, we are committed to finding top talent who can contribute to our mission of improving lives and advancing healthcare. We believe you could be an excellent fit for our team, and we'd like to know if you are still interested in the position.

Please let us know if you are still interested in the position or if you have any questions. We are happy to discuss the role further and provide you with any additional information you need.

Thank you for considering AbbVie as your potential employer, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Will Generative AI replace recruiters?

Glen Cathey, a friend of CXR and SVP of Workforce Advisory & Digital Strategy at Randstad, said it best, "Humanness still matters, especially for hard-to-fill jobs, and the core of that is empathy. A good recruiter brings the opportunity and company to life, beyond what a person can see on a website or job description."
